Humans of CUC

I hated school and couldn’t wait to leave, determined never to deal with homework or assignments again.
Yet, years later, I had completed courses in aged care, accounting, remedial massage therapy, and education support. Still, I was searching for a career filled with joy and purpose. I knew I wanted to help people but hadn’t yet figured out how.
The answer came unexpectedly. While working as a classroom support assistant, the principal called me in for a meeting near the end of the school year. My heart sank as I braced for bad news. “The funding for your position has run out,” she said. Then came a twist: “But one of our library assistants is retiring, and we’d love to offer you the role if you’re interested.”
At that moment, a spark lit inside me. Memories of being a library monitor in primary school—something I’d loved—came rushing back. I accepted immediately, and soon after, I applied to CSU to become a qualified librarian.
Since then, I’ve worked in school and public libraries while studying part-time. Initially, I thought I’d become a children’s librarian but discovered a deep passion for archives. Archives hold incredible potential—they can uncover family histories, solve unsolved crimes, and preserve the stories that shape our communities.
Now, halfway through my degree, I’ve chosen to specialise in records and archives. Balancing work, study, and family hasn’t been easy, but I’ve finally found my calling—a way to help others, make an impact, and feel fulfilled. As I study at CUC each week, I’m reminded that every step brings me closer to achieving my dream.
